I'm so famous...

I had to drive down to our Main office yesterday to drop off some student folders and I thought I recognized someone there that I work with. But I wasn't quite sure if it was her or not since I had only seen her from behind. I was pretty sure it was Mary Ellen, but just in case it wasn't, I decided to ask the receptionist who it was.

The receptionist, whom I see all the time, was not sure who I was referring to. She took the sign in book from me and began to study the names that had signed in already.

"Oh, that must've been Kris Kahle," she said.

"Uh, no, I'm Kris Kahle."

"Oh. Are you sure?"

Later the same day, I returned to my own campus and went into our front office to have them buzz me in. That's customary in schools now - at least in Texas - and until I get my official "entry card" I still have to bother the front desk to get in.

So I go in, sign in, and then motion for the secretary to please buzz me in and I began to head towards the door.

She stopped me dead in my tracks.

"Uh, what grade level do you need to see?"

"Huh?"

"Who are you going to see?" she repeated.

"None," I meekly said. "I, uh, work here."

"Are you sure?" she asked.

I proudly held up my badge that was hanging around my neck and waited till she buzzed me in.

And in I went, determined to dye my hair green tonight and wear bright orange from now on. Or I'll go in my monkey suit. I've gotten pretty good at those dance steps now. And if that won't get me noticed...

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse... I had to go to yet another office. I said hello to Sarah at the front desk there.

Sarah said "hi" and then motioned for me to come closer. I did. She reached out her arm to me. Then she reached even further and grabbed at my name tag/swipe badge. And read it. I realized then that all the times I've said hi to Sarah... she really didn't have any idea who I was.

Ho hum.
