goo gooby goo

Facebook rules my life right now (not really) so I laid this blog down for a nap.  It's still napping, but every once in awhile I try to lift it up again and remember how much fun I had playing with it.

It's still sleeping, but I'm just about to lower the crib side and see if it can stand up for a moment.  Come to mama ...

Ooh, the knees are a bit wobbly.  The feet are struggling to stand ... but that hand is reaching out for the pacifier.  And a bottle.  And ... an entire box of Arrowroot cookies.  Yep, that's my child.

While the ol' blog is blinking and trying to get a feel for the world again ... let me grace you with this little bitty napper.  She was mad at her daddy for leaving her ... and going off to the military to save the world ... and save Kauai from Hurricane Iniki.

When they were reunited ... well, I'm just glad I had my camera rolling.

in honor of easter ...

Since Easter was yesterday and since I'm all about posting opposite of what everyone else does ... here's a video that I found quite amusing.  No religious tones (although I AM all about that) and no chocolate bunnies (had quite enough of those yesterday, thank you very much) ...

Enjoy.   And yep, this is pretty much what I see and hear everyday.

sailing, sailing ... over the ocean blue

While Elizabeth waits for her date to start on the cruise ship, she has been informed that she has to attend a week of "Water Safety Training" in Piney Point, Maryland.  She is now awaiting the date for that class.

Elizabeth is very nervous about this training that she must attend.  Honestly, it looks like a boat-load of fun to me (pun intended.)

See for yourself ....

just for a moment ...

I bought my condo from a wonderful real estate lady, up in Idaho.  She was delightful.  Unfortunately she was struck down last night with a stroke.  I found this little gal (only 5 years old!) singing the National Anthem on Karen's Facebook page and I wanted to share it.  Just a moment of an amazing little girl, singing an amazing song ... that an amazing woman liked as well.

shamrocks, anyone?

Nope, I don't necessarily adore the little kid in the above link/video ... but he did get me to thinking.  And when I thinks ... well, watch out.

I do have a lot to be thankful for and this St. Patrick's Day, the one that just passed, caused me to stop and pause.  St. Patrick's Day is never a good day for me.  Too much STUFF has happened on various St. Patrick's Days in my life for me to ever enjoy it.

So ... this little video is timely.  For me, anyway.

And I hope it causes you to stop and ponder a bit, too.

Click on either the link or picture above.

Muchas gracias.

T minus 2 days

As Elizabeth prepared to move to California (by inviting her parents over to help her pack) (wait, HELP her?  Uh, no.  That's not exactly how it went...) Rick and I dropped by to check on the progress, bring her some boxes and see her cute apartment in Plano one last time.  As it usually is, Rick sits on the couch and Kris delves right in.

This particular time ... Rick did not sit on the couch.

Check this out!

Rick put on his dancing shoes ~

 Go, Rick Go!!

~ and sadly, today he's glued to the couch with an ice pack on his hip!

Moral of the story:  Who cares!  Dance your heart out Rick!!

a day in the life of...

Elizabeth had Good Friday off and spent the day with her dad.  She was pleasantly surprised by his progress.  Not that she hadn't visited him before ... but he hadn't been well before.  In fact, he's only JUST begun to truly recover.  And the video she took of him proves it.  This was his first visit outside since March 13th.  Yep, nearly a month ago.

44 more shopping days

Two things ...

1) I did something stupid.  (Yeah, yeah, what else is new?)  I saw an ad that said 'Now Hiring Christmas Help' and I applied.  Yes, I applied to STORE's Department Store for Christmas help.  And why not?  I'm there all the time anyway.  But again, WHY DID I DO THIS?  No, I don't have the job... yet.  I do have an interview though.  Am I going?  Why not.  If nothing else, I'll get some interviewing practice.  And in case you're wondering ... NO, I'm not leaving my day job.  Well, not unless my acting career takes off and then maybe.  Just kidding.  No plans to leave.  The big question is WHEN ON EARTH DO I EXPECT TO FIND THE TIME TO WORK?  I have a Christmas show to direct and a choir to sing in and ... and ... and ...

2) Have you heard of Alex From Target?   He's a cute guy who just happens to work at a Target in Texas and someone snapped a picture of him and POOF.  Viral.  Alex From Target became an overnight sensation on Twitter and Facebook.

Here's the clip of him on Ellen.  Naivete at its best but I still think he's adorable.

So, what's the point?  Alex from Target is local to me.  He's a Friscoan.  Friscoite?  Frisconian?  Either way, he got himself famous for ... bagging groceries?

Just call me Kris from STORE's.

Or not.

Please.

up in the air ...

After FINALLY preparing my taxes and FINALLY getting in to the little lady at H & R Block, I am FINALLY finished for another year.  FINALLY.

This year was particularly stressful because I wanted everything perfect.  I saved every receipt (or so I thought) and I took every deduction that I could.  I even PAID TWO YEARS WORTH OF PROPERTY TAXES!   "Why?" you ask.  Because paying the taxes on our rental property for 2013 and 2014 insured us that we would get a refund.  In fact, by doing so, we were gonna get us a big refund!  I was prepared and I was excited.

I spent nearly a week getting everything together ... and planning my vacation to Hawaii.  Yep, that's what Rick and I decided to do with our huge refund.

And ... as of April 14, 2014 ... I was hit with the HORRIBLE news that I would owe this year.

WHAT.  THE.  HECK????     There went my vacation to Hawaii.

So, on that note ... here is a little something that helped me to swallow the news that I would be staying home this summer.  This gal helped me to feel like I was on that plane to Hawaii.  Oh how I wish I was.

And in case you didn't know this little piece of trivia ... I used to be a flight attendant myself.  I flew with United Airlines way back when.  Yep, WAAAAY back when.  1984 to be precise.  And for the record, a speech like this was not allowed.

But it should've been.

Here's a bigger version, if you'd like.  Well, I'd like.  Just cause.  And I get to do anything I want since I don't get to go to Hawaii.  And because I owe the government.  And because I have a dog.  And ...

happy monday!

Although my dear darling daughter would scold me ... I want to start this week off with a little joy.  This makes me smile!

Yes, I received this email ...

Hey, I am in a meeting...I know that you are excited about this, but remember you should be careful about doing these types of things during your work hours. I know that you are taking the day off tomorrow to participate in this experience...

How to burst a bubble...     Fortunately most people were excited for me.

But, anyway.  At the risk of dragging this thing out further, I've decided to jump straight to Friday morning now.  I had already received the call sheet with all of the times, etc... and I was still receiving text messages up until 9:30 PM from the DJ himself (which I loved getting) and it was now time to truly focus on what we were doing.

We decided to leave the house around 5:45 (getting up at 4:45) to arrive around 6:30 instead of 7:30, like they'd requested of us.  And we did just that.  Kudos to my daughter who drove us (she hates my driving because I either have a diet coke in one hand and a burrito in the other... or both hands are full of makeup, waiting to be applied at the worst possible time) there.  She'd scoped out the place the night before so SHE was an expert on getting there ... never mind that she was unaware of any short cuts.

And arrive we did.  To a waiting PA (production assistant) whom Rick immediately asked if he knew Traci Cornet.  Say what, Rick?  Turns out that Traci Cornet is an anchorwoman that Rick likes on CBS news every night.  I hadn't a clue who she was.  And after greeting the PA who  walked us upstairs to the lobby ... we sat back and let them wait on us hand and foot.  Not.

Nope, we were on our own.  The DJs were already on the air and I was already snooping around at watching them.  This stuff was absolutely fascinating to me.

Jody Dean came out (when he could) and introduced himself.  Rebekah Black did the same.  And it was a never ending stream of wonderful people treating us very nicely.  Yep, they did!  I fell in love with every one of them and how down to earth and nice they all were.

And I was never at a loss for words.  No, really.  You could tell that by the awesome way I greeted Jody Dean.  He introduced himself and I, oh so eloquently said, "You're so thin!"  Good one, Kris.  Then when Rebekah came out to meet us, I wonderfully greeted her with, "I love you!"

Sigh.

And I wish I could say that everything came off without a hitch... but I'll leave you with this video.  It starts right off with more of my "hoof in mouth" disease.

Good grief.

and 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ... ACTION!

You can see what all the hoopla was about.  You really can!  Right here:

Okay, so I'm no radio star... but I sure did have fun.  I so enjoyed meeting all the kind folks at KLUV.  What a great group!  And what a fun wedding we had.  Not really our anniversary - yet - but it sure took care of what are we gonna do, Rick, for the big one?

Yeah, we hadn't given it all that much thought.

Thought of a trip.  Thought of a party.  Thought of a trip and a party.

Then I entered a contest and that pretty much summed it up.  We'll do this!

Check it out...

Wanna see something funny?

Or creepy?  Take your pick.

Rick and I went to a Lupus Gala last night as invited guests.  And thank goodness for that, the dang thing was $300 per person.  For that price I never mind being a "seat filler."  Not at all.

Anyway, this was us, there.  (No, I was not an English major.  How'd you know?)

It was a glamorous event, that's for sure.  Got go wear my silky black dress, even.  Rick forego... forgoed?   For went?  Who cares.  I told ya' I didn't do English...  so, Rick skipped the tux idea.  Mostly because he doesn't own one.

What we both skipped, because we had never seen a real invitation (seat fillers don't usually get to see invitations!) was that it was a MASQUERADE party.  Actually a MASK-erade party.  We were sans masks.  And yes, we felt real dumb.  I mean EVERYONE got the memo and EVERYONE wore a mask!

By the end of the evening though, we'd found us each one.

Here's Rick's lovely face...

He actually looked pretty good, if I do say so myself.

Me, however?  Well ....

I look like a pig!!!  That snout is huge!

Yeah, no.  Not my best side.  Or face.  Or anything.

Wait.  Nice ring, though.

Want to see what really caught my attention though?  Check out the girl on the dance floor.  I fell in love with her.  Her Lupus was not going to slow her down one bit!

It was a nice evening.  We are always happy to help support Lupus Awareness and to spend time with others affected with this awful disease.

Oh, and the masks?  Everyone wore a mask to represent what commonly happens to the Lupus sufferer.  Most "lupies" develop a mask-like rash across their face during a flare up.  Most "lupies" want to hide when this happens.  Behind a mask.  Get it?  Hence the MASQUERADE Ball.

We adore all of the people who put on these great Lupus Gala Events.  We are thrilled to be invited.  We wish we didn't have to be, though.

Sigh.

I hesitate to post this ...

and yet, I just can't resist.

I found this on Facebook and it hits SO close to home, it's frightening.  Well, it may elicit tears anyway...

Take a peek at it ... if you dare.  I found it very sweet, very beautiful.
