So, THAT moment in time ...

was followed by THIS moment in time ...

Tuesday night was slated to be crazy.  I was dreading it from the moment I woke up.  It was a busy day at work, it was the day I had to get my flu shot in between the busyness at work.  Immediately following work (actually overlapping it) I was taking a CPR class that would last until 8:00 PM.  Following that, I had to make a salad for a pot luck the following day.  Yes, I had to.  I'd signed up for it.  And I'm that girl, that HAS to follow through.  And after that ... Rick wanted to go out to dinner.  But I had laundry to do.  Plus I had to begin the second round of food I was creating for the week.  I had another pot luck at a bunco party the next day and I knew there was just as little time on the day following.

I did survive it all ... but only because I was mile off on all of my days/times/minutes/weeks/even years, probably.  I went to bed at 2:00 AM after nearly completing every task.  Nearly.

I did get my flu shot ... about an hour late.  I was late because I managed to get LOST on my way back from lunch.  LOST.   L.O.S.T.   I have since learned that it's not wise to just follow the car ahead of you and turn where they turn.  They just might not be headed to where you're headed.  Yes, I'm that girl.  And after the flu shot finally, I headed to the CPR class which was nowhere to be found.  I guess it was lost, too.  Turns out that that CPR class is TWO MORE WEEKS AWAY.  Not even a straight two weeks... two weeks and two days.  I was that much off.

And ... when I got to work the next day, everyone wanted to know where I was headed with all that food.  Why would they all be asking, I wondered.  BECAUSE THE POT LUCK IS NEXT WEEK.

And now I had enough food for an army (because I'm THAT girl) and nothing to do with it.  The gal in the front office, though, was only too happy to join me for lunch.

The rest of the week was crazy crazy, too ... but at least everything there came to pass.  You know that Bunco pot luck I had to go to?  They had a great salad waiting for them.  Yes, I did.  I made that dang thing last for two more days.  And, oddly enough, I got compliments on my salad.  Go figure.

It's Friday now and the craziness of the week has begun to calm down.  Until tonight, that is.  I'm prepping for a garage sale tomorrow.  Because I'm that girl.  The stupid one.

Ya know what, though?  On my way home from Bunco last night ... I had some terrific news.  Made EVERYTHING worth it!

I can't wait to share this news with you!

But I will.

Small World

The following conversation will, hopefully, teach me to keep my mouth shut.

I got this message on Facebook from my friend Julie, who works at Childress, a fabric and upholstery warehouse and store in Frisco. Julie happened to meet... the lady whom we are buying our new house from. You know, the house that isn't ours yet? The house that has a tax lien against it and is being held hostage by the IRS????

"Kris! I met Kim yesterday at Childress (the one you are buying your new house from.) She was in to look for new fabric for her new house and was saying that she was waiting for the IRS to make a decision on what they are going to do... I told her I knew of someone trying to buy a house where the ex-husband's skeletons are coming out of the closet. Then we both looked at each other... I asked her where her house was... and then I said Kris... and she said Kahle and we were both saying what a small world. I just thought you would be amused!"

Oh, I was amused alright. I'm sure that Kim is just delighted to know that all of Frisco knows her personal business!

I've got to have a talk with my mouth....

What do I do all day?

I was recently asked if I had any hobbies and I came up blank. I don't think I have any. At least I couldn't think of any.

So I asked my daughter if she knew of anything that I was capable of doing. I mean, there must be something that I can do. I do do something, don't I?

She kindly gave me this list. It sure eased my mind.

Traveling, bunco, solitaire, free cell, scrabble, cooking, reading, eating out, shopping, walking, "I Love Lucy," "Andy Griffith," "That Girl," HGTV, cruises, buying things for your daughter, BLOGGING, taking photos, ebay-ing

I never knew I was so gifted. I guess that college degree I got has really paid off.

And it's a good thing... because I now know how to spend my week off.

Memory is shot...

It was my turn to host Bunco on Thursday night. And so I did.

And part of the responsibilities of hosting is to do the inviting. And so I did.

I sent out a typical email and then realized that I was missing the email address of one of the players. Found her phone number though and called her to give her a personal invitation.

Her answering machine answered and so I began chatting away.

"Hi, Laura. This is Kris Kahle from Bunco. And I'm sorry to be calling so late but I wanted to make sure you remembered that Bunco is tomorrow night... and it's at my house. I know you've been here before but just in case you've forgotten, I live at 6, um, 6... Well, it's on Plantation. In Frisco. It's on the corner of... Well, you've been here before. Go ahead and give me a call at... (972) 334... well, I'm sure you've got that number, too. Hope to see you here!"

Yeah. With all that information? I was that amazed when Laura actually made it to the Bunco game.

Thursday night... when all the guests had arrived, one had the gall to ask me for a bowl to put the dip in that she brought. For the life of me, I could not find a bowl. I mean, I only live here for Pete's sake.

As we all gathered around the hors d'oeuvres, I realized that we needed some light.... and I promptly turned on the garbage disposal.

Maybe I don't really live here.

Anyway, it was just that kind of a night. I didn't know where I lived, where the bowls lived and how to light my way.... but heck, I can sure find the garbage disposal.

Ornaments

Went Christmas shopping for an ornament this week. My Bunco group (yes, I am old... and I play Bunco...) is having a big Christmas dinner where instead of playing the game we will dine out and have an ornament exchange.

So, I headed to Kohl's. I knew they had ornaments plus I knew that I could always entertain myself there. It's not like they only sell ornaments.

And I found one. Big drapey bells in a muted green color. $4.99. I was thrilled with the price because while we had a $10 limit, these looked every bit like a $20 ornament.

At the cash register, the young Vietnamese checker said, "Those are nice. But we have some that are even bigger and better that have just come in. Here, I'll get them for you." And she disappeared.

She returned with some flashy, flashy bells on a string that would blind you. They reminded me of the Grinch's colors. Or Kermit's. Or some clothes I wore back in the 60's.

I smiled and said 'no thanks' but the checker persisted.

"These are so much prettier," she said.
"In whose eyes?" I asked.
"Well, these are brighter. Those are so dull."
"Be careful," I said. "I happen to like those."

Right then her manager walked by and sensed an issue happening.

"Is everything alright?"
"Yes, but your cashier just insulted my ornament." I was really only teasing but deep down I mean't it.

The manager didn't seem too concerned and walked on.

"Just out of curiosity, how much are those?" I asked.
"$8.99."

- pause -

"Did you happen to notice that mine were a bit cheaper?"
"I just think you'd like these better."

I quit while I was ahead and I did get my ornament. I also delighted in watching the cashier have to skip back to where she had pulled her ornament from.

She did get me thinking though.... customer service is no longer dead. It's alive and well and living at Kohl's.

HGTV I'm not...

Because I watch HGTV and because I feel I'm every bit as talented as all the designers on that network (NOT!) I decided to decorate for my Bunco party with all that I've learned.

First up - a centerpiece made of all natural fibers. Yep, I've gone green. Literally.

I was given a cute wire basket as part of a gift for buying the townhouse and I decided to turn it into my centerpiece for my party.

And what would HGTV do? They would fill it with little green apples. And so I did.

Seemed easy enough.

So, I bought some. Actually I bought a lot.

See how nice they look?

Until they touched the wire basket, I guess. Is there some rule that little green apples can not touch little wire baskets? I guess so.

Because here's my beautiful centerpiece just a few hours after it was assembled.

I am so talented. Even I can't stand it.

Bunco!

Last night the ladies of Bunco played at my house.

Hosting the "party" means stocking up on alcohol, food and... more alcohol before the game starts. But not being a drinker, well, I didn't quite know what to pick up. So I took Rick shopping with me and together we decided on a bunch of wine coolers. I figured that would be "tame" and yet still please everyone.

As usual, everyone was loud, boisterous and truly fun to be around. Alcohol or not, these guys know how to have a good time. Diane will one day have to be featured here... you'd never believe her!

Anyway, when the game was over, the food eaten and the prizes all distributed, everyone headed back home and I began the clean up. And Rick felt he could come downstairs from his hiding place in the media room. He commented on how loud we'd all been and how he'd had trouble hearing the movie he was watching (aahhhh.) What food was left over now became his and I'd left out significant things for him to find. Which he did.

This morning when I got up, I found him studying one of the still unopened bottles of the "Blue Hawaii" wine coolers. I guess the bright blue caught his eye.

"Hey," he suddenly called out... "there's alcohol in these. Now I know why you were all so loud!"

I was immediately afraid of how many Rick had tried before coming to that conclusion! And you know, nothing gets by Rick at all. Buying the wine coolers in the liquor department should've been his first clue.

*** By the way, I took the prize for being the biggest loser. Somethings will just never change.
