11 years and counting

It's been 11 long years since our lives changed. Forever. It was March 9, 1997. Not a good day, not a good year, not a good time.

Rick (and I) went through SO much that year. He had a BAD Lupus attack that seemed uncontrollable and he was hospitalized on March 9, 1997, his third week into the attack.

110 days in the hospital, another seven weeks recuperating at his mother's house and nearly 2 1/2 years recovering from the most devastating Lupus attack we had ever seen. And his doctor's had ever seen.

And he beat the odds.

11 years later, Rick remains in remission. He just had another checkup... and the results are always amazing! His blood looks like he never even had the disease in the first place.

What an amazing man. What an amazing body. What an amazing God.

Do we take it for granted? NEVER. Not for one minute. And he still takes all the precautions that he has to - staying out of the sun, wearing sunscreen and hats and long sleeves if he must go out, taking his 24 pills a day - religiously - and seeing all of his doctors regularly.

11 years is nothing to take for granted. 11 years is such a blessing.
